Does your horse have Cushings Disease?
Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID), formerly known as equine Cushing’s disease can often go undiagnosed.
Previously thought of as an older horse disease, more and more horses are being diagnosed at an earlier age, some as young as 5 years of age. Because the early signs of the disease can often be very subtle, it may often be overlooked until the disease is in an advanced stage.
Common Symptoms include:
- Weight loss
- Change in attitude/ lethargy
- Delayed coat shedding
- Decreased athletic performance
- Infertility
- Laminitis/ reoccurring hoof abscess
- Loss of epaxial muscle mass (topline)
If you think your horse or pony may have PPID, please give us a call.
